Blue Monkey Mountains began long before the café was built.
It began on mountain faces, on long desert roads, on surf breaks at sunrise, and high above valleys beneath a paraglider wing. Founded by a geophysicist and lifelong adventurer — mountaineer, former state climbing champion, surfer and pilot — this place is the result of a life shaped by curiosity and movement.
Over the years, he travelled through 118 countries. Some journeys were for work as a geoscientist, studying the earth beneath his feet. Most were driven by something simpler — the desire to understand people, culture and landscape. Crossing Africa, Europe and Asia by motorcycle on a BMW R1200GSA, and riding across Australia beforehand as a “warm-up” adventure, the road became a classroom of stories, flavours and shared tables.
Blue Monkey Mountains was created from that experience — a place where travellers, riders, climbers and locals can gather, slow down, share food and conversation, and feel part of something grounded yet expansive.
At its heart, the café reflects this philosophy: good coffee, honest food, open views and a welcoming space for community. Sustainability, social connection, climbing culture and gastronomy are not marketing ideas here — they are simply how life has been lived.
